Last night, a friend and I were talking about soul mates. After we talked, I realized that the word ‘soulmate’ needs a redefinition. Most of us assume that to be a soul mate, a person has to be a romantic partner. But actually, your soul mates are the people with whom you share an Essence connection, a soul connection. These may be your lovers or spouses. They may also be people you work with, or satsang buddies. A soul mate could even be somebody you connect with for a few hours, or an old friend you talk to every few years. When there is a true soulmate connection, the two of you can enter together into what is sometimes called an enlightened We-space, a shared experience of pure awareness, or unconditional love, or simply a sense of understanding that takes you to a deeper level.
